Bob Lecours - 1954-2012
In 2012, the Toronto Mets and all of baseball lost a great man, friend and coach with the passing of Toronto Mets 18U coach Bob Lecours. Bob passed on Friday Jan 27th, 2012, at Scarborough Grace Hospital following a massive stroke suffered the previous weekend.
Our deepest sympathies and our prayers will forever go out to Bob's wife Dana and daughter Taylor. The family expressed their appreciation to all Toronto Mets players, parents, alumni, coaches & supporters as well the rest of the baseball community for their support during this time. Your fond memories and kind words at both the visitation and funeral meant a great deal to them. Bob made many friends during his time with the Mets and will be remembered for his wit and humor as well as his knowledge for baseball. He was a part of several Mets National Championships.
Bob's family is associated with the Alzheimer's Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation in case you wish to make a donation. Bob will always be in our hearts and mind as we take the field this season and he left us with his passion for baseball instilled in each and every single person he came into contact with.
Jake Eliopoulos - 1991-2013
Jake Eliopoulos passed away on Monday April 29th, 2013, a few weeks short of his 22nd birthday. Jake was a wonderful young man with a golden left arm and a love for the game of baseball. He was a friend to all his teammates and coaches from his days at North York, Newmarket Hawks, the Toronto Mets and Team Canada. Jake and his dad Jim were a big part of our Toronto Mets family over the years and his passing has left a huge hole in our program. Jim has and continues to use this as a great platform to speak about Mental Health and the ability to not be afraid to seek help in times of need. Each year, Jim creates "Jake's Team" and cycles in the "Ride, Don't Hide" charity event. We send our sincerest condolences to Jim and the whole family and want them to know they will always be a part of our Mets family.
Paul Triolo - 1958 - 2013
Paul was the father of Mets Alum Mitch Triolo. Paul, who many referred to as "Shakey" was very actively involved within Baseball in Toronto and especially Scarborough throughout the years. He was an avid golfer and a major contributor to our Mets golf tournaments. He was also a very proud father as he attended the World Junior Championships in 2012 to watch Mitch help Team Canada to a silver medal.
Paul was also the driving force in the establishment of our indoor facility Out Of The Park Sports. His vision and drive on this project, and the incredible work he helped to execute, have given us one of the best indoor baseball facility in Eastern Canada and will be one of Paul's lasting gift to the Toronto Mets and kids baseball in the eastern GTA.
We ask you to join us in mourning Paul's passing and in support of his loving family, wife Jacqui, and Mitch and Natalie.
Thank you Paul for your support of the Toronto Mets and your outstanding contributions to minor baseball in Scarborough and Toronto
JOHN JEPSON - 1954 - 2018
John, one of our founding fathers of the Toronto Mets program, passed away from cancer in October of 2018.
Passed away on October 14th, 2018 at 67 years of age after 18 months of courageously battling with pancreatic cancer. John leaves behind his true love and wife of 42 years, Linda Jepson (nee Cooper) who was at his side throughout his struggle and especially during his last days at Hospice Niagara in St. Catharines.
John grew up in Park Extension in Montreal and moved to Toronto in 1970. He never forgot his Montreal roots and was a devoted lifetime fan of his beloved Montreal Canadiens. He started his working career with Merit Insurance and progressed to a very successful career over many years in national sales with Quaker State Oil and later with Castrol. John and Linda travelled extensively and vacationed annually in Fort Lauderdale by the Sea until they officially became snowbirds in 2013 when, in semi-retirement, they bought their winter home in Venice, Florida. They moved to the Niagara on the Lake area from Toronto in 2015. His other lifetime passion, for over 50 years, was organized baseball - as a player from peewee through junior ball in his youth in Montreal - and later as a successful coach in the 80’s and 90’s in Toronto with the North York Blues where his teams won two national championships. In 2018 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the PBLO; in the citation he received it was noted that “John Jepson has touched thousands of baseball lives“.
John is predeceased by his father John Jepson Sr., his mother June Jepson (nee Honiball), his stepfather Duncan Mitchell and his stepmother Rachel Cheabotar. John is survived by his sister Gale, who stood vigil at the hospice for the past week, brothers-in-law Mike (Debbie) Cooper and Steven (Liz) Cooper, his brother Jeff (and partner Debbie) and stepsister Kim. John will be missed by his immediate and extended families in Montreal and Toronto, his nieces, nephews and so many friends across Canada and the US, including lifetime best friends Dan (Barbara) Amadori and Larry (Sue) Carriere.
